New Bees at Cwmbwrla
Thursday 19th August 10. Our bees have finally arrived courtesy of Steve who went all the way to Shropshire to get them for us. Currently they are in their little nuke! and will be soon transferred to their permanent home.
The bees arrived in this box, called a nucleus.
There are 6 frames of bees in here. There are'nt many visible as it was a long journey and obviously they needed a nap.
This is to be there new home.

20th August 10. Visit the gallery for pictures of how the transfer was made from the nuke to the hive.
24th August. The bees are doing well.
They got through 6 pounds of sugar over
the
weekend. Today we are going to add a gallon
to the feeder. The weather is a bit rainy so
the bees are not flying much today.
27th August. A landing strip has been fitted to to the hive which enables to bees to do the waggle dance. Vist the gallery for a slide show of this.
16th September. The hive is growing.
We added a new super last week which would give us room to add more frames. This week we opened the hive to feed them and found the bees had started working the new frames in earnest much to our surprise and delight. See more
17th September. Went out today to replace the queen excluder and found some frames heavy with clear golden honey.
23rd September 10. We had removed the opening cover to allow the bees freer movement.
And we replaced this with a new cover with
a wider opening than the old one. We have to
be careful that wasps and other bees do not
try to rob the honey from the hive by increasing
this opening.
