The Orchard Centre is an Acute Day Hospital Facility situated in central Swansea. It was opened in April 1991 and has now become an established community facility for the assessment and treatment of adults with serious mental health problems.
The centre aims to provide a high quality secondary mental health service to all adults living in the City and County of Swansea.
Staffing at the Centre is multidisciplinary, this includes: medical, nursing, occupational therapists and psychotherapists. We also provide placements for pre registration nursing students.
We operate Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. No current evening or weekend provision provided.
All referrals to the Centre will need to be under the care of a Consultant Psychiatrist. The main route is through one of the Community Mental Health Teams covering Swansea or in patient Services at Cefn Coed Hospital. We are unable to take self referrals.
A therapeutic environment is provided for either individual or group setting. The current short-term, time limited therapies/activities on offer include:
Cognitive Therapy for Depression
Group or Individual Cognitive Therapy for Psychosis and Bi-Polar Affective Disorder
Individual supportive counselling
Medication Monitoring Clinics
Eating Disorder Sessions/Treatments
A treatment plan will be agreed with all involved parties in your care, with regular progress reviews. Discharge planning will also be put in place to aid a smooth transition when discharge is due.
As part of your care package we will endeavour to liaise and work in partnership with any relevant non statutory agencies e.g. Cwmbwrla Day Centre, Connect, Hafal etc.
We actively encourage attendance at any User/Carer support groups run locally and have professional membership with the Eating Disorder Association.
